muckrakersOur modern day version of TMZ. They were journalists who wrote about the corrupt side of business and public life in mass circulation magazines during the early 20th century.
How the Other Half Lives is a book by Jacob Riis showing how poor immigrants lived in the cities, the book consisted of many pictures illustrating the horrid conditions in which they slept, ate, worked and played in.
McClure's Magazine was the well known magazine of this era showing political dirty and exposing the government to the public.
prohibitionProhibition is the banning of alcohol. Refraining from alcohol, temperance and consumption helped form Prohibition
Women were the main supporters of Prohibition because they would see alcohol consumption on a daily basis from their husbands and saw the effect it had on them.
Prohibition banned all selling and consumption of alcohol. Many were not happy with this ban especially men.
Under the Progressive Amendments peoples taxes were adjusted to their income therefore it was possible for the lower class to pay their taxes.

bull moose partyOriginally known as the Progressive party, they advocated women suffrage, workmen's compensation, an eight hour workday, a minimum wage for women, a federal law against child labor, and a federal trade commission to regulate businesses. The platform called for a direct election of senators and adoption in all states.
The Bull Moose Party helped split the Republican party in half, teddy Roosevelt came up with this platform. It called for "a square deal all around" as in it would be fair for everyone.
pure food & drug actin 1906 Congress passed this act hating the sale of contaminated food and medicines and called for truth in labeling.
Because of this food had grades that were true and given by the Food and Drug Administration approving the quality of the food or drug.
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair was a book about the meat packing industry and was suppose to show people bad working conditions but instead showed them what goes on in the meat packing industry. After this book came out the Pure Food and Drug act was put in place.
After this act companies had to start putting the actual ingredients in the labeling of their packages.
progressive AMENDMENTSProgressive Amendments had four goals; to protect social welfare, promote moral improvement, create economic reforms and to foster efficiency.
Under this the citizens got to nominate their senators which gave them a little more power in their government.

Persistance was shown by the motions to show people the working conditions of factories and the Jungle by Upton Sinclair. The government changed by having a larger say in businesses in industries. |
change from previous era Changes that took place in this era would be that party bosses went away a little and that now the government couldn't hide things from the public because of reporters also the people were given more power in the government. Alcohol was banned and people now knew what was in their food and what they were eating because of the Pure Food Drug Act.
