the new deal
jobs created during the new dealThe New Deal created many jobs through acts or programs to help citizens find work.
The Civilian Conservation Corps or CCC provided jobs for single males on conservation projects. It employed 3 million men from the ages 18-25 to build roads, develop parks, plant trees and to help soil erosion.
The National Industrial Recovery Act or NIRA provided money to states to create jobs by the construction of schools and other community buildings. The NIRA also sought to promote industrial growth by establishing codes of fair practice for individual industries. These programs failed to make a dent in the unemployment Roosevelt then established the Civil Works Administration.
The Works Progress Administration or WPA quickly created as many jobs as possible. They hired unskilled workers who built 850 airports, constructed or repaired 65 thousand miles of road and put up 125 thousand public buildings.

national recovery administration (NRA)In 1933, the NRA was created by the NIRA. They set prices of many products and established standards.
The NRA was part of Roosevelts recovery. It's wain was to promote recovery by interrupting the trend of wage cuts, falling prices and lay offs.
The first director of the NRA was Hugh Samuel Johnson. He called on every business establishment in the nation to accept a "blanket code" which was a minimum wage for workers of 20 to 45 cents per hour, a maximum workweek of 35 to 45 hours, and the abolition of child labor. Johnson and Roosevelt believed that the "blanket code" would raise consumer purchasing power and decrease unemployment.
